Indiana Workteam Brings Their Joy to the Mission!

The New Albany District workteam representing several churches and denominations from Southern Indiana usually bring an end to the busy volunteer season at the Mission. They are usually our last major weeklong team of volunteers prior to the Christmas season. This has been their practice and the Mission's good fortune and blessings for many years. This adult team comes with know-how, good times, and a joy of giving and thankfulness that shines in every face! They mean a great deal to our staff as friendships are renewed for yet another year. Remarkably, the oldest is 91 years old. All of these Christian disciples has a story to tell and a dedication to give back in return for their own personal blessings. They came during the week of September 20 -- 55 wonderful people anxious to make a difference.

This group worked all around from Wadmalaw Island to Adams Run and back to Johns Island, including working at the Mission itself. They brought enough tools and know-how to build anything asked of them. However, one project of many stands out in this writers mind as something very special.

Mrs. Johnson lives on Wadmalaw Island. She has been fighting MS for many years and has lost the use of her legs. She has been getting around her home for quite some time by scooting around on the floor. This is a humbling way to live, but her faith has given her a cheerful outlook and a great smile. To leave her home to go to church, Mrs. Johnson has had to crawl down a flight of stairs from her home which is almost six feet off the ground. One of the workteams from this Indiana group dedicated their week's mission efforts to constructing a handicap ramp leading to her front door. To Mrs. Johnson, who has waited so long for this, the ramp is a miracle. Her joy was uncontainable when one of the workteam members placed her in her wheelchair and brought her up and down her new ramp. The tears flowed all around!

Thank you to this wonderful group of 55 missionaries from Indiana. Have a safe and blessed year as we await your return next September.
