Rural Missions

Homes for Christmas

The Rural Mission has been joined by The Charleston Place Hotel, Hill Construction Company, the Post and Courier Newspaper, PODS Company and Seacoast Christian Community Church in West Ashley to provide a wonderful Christmas blessing for two families well known to most of the Mission's volunteer workteams that came to us in 2009. The goal of these generous partners and compassionate friends is to have the Mack home on Wadmalaw Island and the Smiley home near Hollywood completely finished by Christmas. This will be a joyous gift for these struggling families as winter again makes their old trailers almost unlivable from the dampness and cold.

Homes for Christmas

Homes for Christmas! Please share in our goal for these two needy families and help make this Christmas gift possible. The remaining work to complete these two homes will cost $30,000. Together with Hill Construction Company, we are asking for contractors to give of their time to help make this possible. Anderson Mack, Jr. Housing Workcamp Director with the Mission can help advise on what needs to be done. Good used or new household items, furniture and appliances can be donated to help turn these houses into comfortable, warm homes. A storage POD has been placed in front of Seacoast Christian Community Church at 2049 Savannah Highway near Citadel Mall with the banner, Homes for Christmas! Please contact the Rural Mission at (843) 768-1720 about donating items to help give these families a new start.

For the full story on the difficult challenges and hardships of these families and the coming together of so many to change their lives at this special time of year, go to the Post and Courier website.

Please donate to help make this possible. Your gifts can make a true difference for these families. Please donate online through our parter, Network for Good, as part of your Christmas giving. The Rural Mission can also accept your donations payable to Rural Mission, Inc. -- Homes for Christmas!, mailed to PO Box 235, Johns Island, SC 29457.

Our special thank you go to those who have come together to make this possible -- Carol Etheridge and Mickey Bakst of Charleston Place Hotel, Burrow Hill of Hill Construction, and Glenn Smith of the Post & Courier.
