Winter School Break Brings Youth Group From Rhode Island back to Johns Island
For 17 years, young people and their adult leaders from East Greenwich United Methodist Church in Rhode Island have been coming to the Rural Mission. This year, 28 young people from their Methodist Youth Fellowship along with 13 adults stayed at the Mission during the week of February 16. These are terrific young people who worked hard, learned and shared, and truly enjoyed each other's company and coming to Johns Island. Many had come before. Giving through missions was clearly a part of their lives and their joy was evident. Many thanks to their adult leaders who helped to make this possible.
The group took on several projects including replacing a roof and some siding on an older rundown building where migrants lived; adding a roof and some porches and stairs to Mrs. Mack's new home under construction; splitting firewood for elderly residents; helping to finish the interior and outside of Mrs. Green's home, and building a dog house for Diamond, Mrs. Mack's very loveable dog. Much was accomplished and shared in Kingdom building!
