Thank you, Carolina Mission Team!First Baptist Church, Newberry, SC First Baptist Church, Laurens, SC First Baptist Church, Simpsonville, SC Willow Ridge Baptist Church, Lexington, SC They came in large numbers and touched a great many people across the Sea Islands in need of hope and a helping hand. They answered the call to assist the least among us with enthusiasm and compassion. Missions is what they do. They have come together as a group for a number of years, serving in the Gulf Coast area with dedication and commitment. This July they came to the Rural Mission and to Johns Island for the first time. Their blessings and memories will be us for years to come. We were greatly blessed! The Carolina Mission Team was lead by Pastor L.E. Williamson, Becki Miller and Dean Mullinax from First Baptist Church in Mauldin, SC. St. Johns High school housed this group of 186 young people and 93 adults for the week. Their churches buses and trucks were seen and appreciated all over the islands and the Hollywood/Ravenel areas. What they did to help low income families and residents is remarkable. This experienced and hardworking group completed repairs on 23 homes and worked on three Habitat for Humanity houses. They held a weeklong Sports Camp for island children at Stono Baptist Church on Johns Island. These children learned soccer, basketball and volleyball skills, heard many Bible Stories and enjoyed lots of snacks and sno-cones. At Angel Oak Elementary school, also on Johns Island, these eager young people helped with an ongoing day camp and assisted with crafts and games and enjoyed one- on- one special time, attention and love with the young camp children. During very hot weather, they installed several new roofs on homes and churches ... very hard work for even experienced roofers. Many island people and families came to their dinners and worship services to thank them personally. Missions and discipleship build bonds of love, respect and friendship. These wonderful volunteers did this with abundance in His name!
