Thank you to our wonderful volunteers from Blackbaud, Corp.
Day of Caring -- 2009 Trident United Way and the Rural Mission
September 11 was a terrific day of sharing and outreach for the Rural Mission and a group of thirteen volunteers from the Blackbaud Corp. in Charleston. These eager volunteers exemplified the spirit and tradition of this special day of service as they worked on two projects for low income families being served by the Rural Mission. The Blackbaud Corp. contributed financially as well as allowing its employees to serve with us and throughout the Charleston community.
Special thanks also go to Newton Farms at Freshfields Village on Seabrook island for generously contributing to the success and enjoyment of the day with lunches and drinks for all the volunteers and the Mission staff working with them!
One team of volunteers worked throughout the day to prime all the interior walls in the two bedroom home being built for Mrs. Mack on Wadmalaw Island. Mrs. Mack was there to thank the group and to bless them for their generosity, caring and hard work. The unfinished walls were brightened throughout the home, now ready for the finish painting.
The second team answered our call to complete emergency repairs at the home of Mrs. Ladson on Johns Island. The floor of one bedroom had completely collapsed due to rot and moisture. Prior to their arrival, the entire floor system had been removed by church volunteers. Under the direction of Pastor David Williams, Rural Mission Master Carpenter, this team built the floor joist system and subflooring. This was difficult work and the team did a wonderful job. The family is extremely grateful to be able to use this bedroom again.
