The 2010 Census is coming!

The Rural Mission is serving as a partner for the 2010 Census. We will be working to help inform and assist the underserved hard to reach populations on the rural Sea Islands to make sure that everyone is counted.

These populations include seniors, Hispanics and African Americans. Look for future information from the Rural Mission. Highly publicized mailings of census forms and information will begin in February, 2010. The census counting will take place in April.

South Carolina had one of the poorest responses to the 2000 Census, ranking 48th in participation. This low response rate hurts everyone, especially those populations in need that are dependent upon Federally supported programs for help with basic needs. As a state, we receive less because few are counted.
