First Broad Street UMC College Workteam Helps Bring Christmas to an Old Friend
The Rural Mission's relationship and bond with the missions program at First Broad Street United Methodist Church in Kingsport, Tenn. goes back three decades. Danny Howe again brought a group of college students to the Mission during their Christmas break from classes. Unlike other years when we were having a balmy December -- January, it was nearly as cold here as in Tennessee. That didn't stop this eager and willing group from working hard to help an old friend.
They had worked tirelessly two years ago to help repair this gentleman's old trailer after a tornado did heavy damage and left his property a disaster of downed trees and debris. This past summer, the old trailer caught fire and everything Ernie had was lost. Working with the United Methodist Relief Center, an Elderly Transportable home was located on his property thanks to support from Rockville Presbyterian Church and others.
These college students spent the week after Christmas doing many needed repairs and upgrades on this home so that Ernie will again have a safe and warm home in which to live. Ernie is at times overwhelmed by this generosity and immensely appreciative that so many have come to his aid in this difficult time.
Thank you First Broad Street UMC College group and adult leaders!!
The 16 college students and adults getting ready to load up for another day to be warmed by friendship, caring and hard work.
Ernie and a volunteer share a moment next to his new home.
