Rural Mission and East Coast Migrant Headstart Enter into a New Relationship

After 31 years of providing for the operation, leadership and administration, the Rural Mission is wishing the East Coast Migrant Headstart Program well under a new administrative reorganization. This is in keeping with a National trend under which the Migrant Headstart program is centralizing its operations and administration in a changing climate for migrants and their future. We view this change as a welcome move to provide even better service and care for migrant children who lead a difficult life in poverty and uncertainty.

Rural Mission Migrant Headstart will now be known as East Coast Migrant Headstart – S.C. Direct Services (ECMHSP). The program will continue to operate from the Rural Mission’s facilities on Camp Care Road and at St. James UMC on Johns Island and from the new facility near the Town of Lodge in Colleton County. Dana Rogers has officially become Regional Director of ECMHSP and will oversee migrant children Headstart operations in Beaufort, Colleton and Charleston Counties. Congratulations Dana!

To celebrate this change, the East Coast Board of Directors met in Charleston and at the Rural Mission in July to witness a passing of the leadership from Linda D. Gadson, Rural Mission Executive Director to Dana Rogers. Thank you to Mrs. Gadson for her 31 years of service and dedication to the needs of migrant children and their families. She continues as Rural Mission executive director.

Migrant families and children continue to need our help in many ways. Many generous individuals and churches have always donated to the Rural Mission either monetarily or with needed items for the children. Please continue to do so. Your gifts are needed. Please also join with us in serving these children by volunteering in one of the centers. You can help in caring for these wonderful children and bringing joy to their day by reading or playing.
