A 15-year tradition in the Lowcountry, Trident United Way’s Day of Caring brings together hundreds of nonprofit agencies such as Rural Mission with thousands of volunteers on one day dedicated to improving the tri-county community.

This year, the Day of Caring connected Rural Mission with more than 20 volunteers from AMT Senior Aerospace, a department of Boeing.

The team got right to work helping Rural Mission with cutting wood for local residents in need. They also helped clear Rural Mission’s yard and put new siding on the building — both of which were damaged during Hurricane Matthew.

“We at AMT South Carolina felt honored to be able to participate in Days of Caring. Providing service with our different levels of skills for Rural Mission meant a lot to us. We appreciate being able to give back and do something positive for our community,” said Christina Guzman, Coordinator at AMT Senior Aerospace. “We were welcomed with open arms and felt very appreciated by the staff at Rural Mission along with other members of Rural Mission. We look forward to volunteering our services again for Rural Mission. We believe we have found a wonderful partnership!”

As a thank you, Rural Mission cooked authentic Gullah food for the workers.

There is still more work to do, but the efforts of the AMT Senior Aerospace volunteers made a huge difference!
